Classification of Independent Contractors: Guidelines by the California EDD

Overview

Los Angeles partner Pascal Benyamini presented to the California Political Attorneys Association, a nonpartisan California nonprofit corporation that, among other things, serves as a network and resource to its members who practice in the area of political law. Pascal presented on Classification of Independent Contractors: Guidelines by the California Employment Development Department (EDD). Participants learned what different factors are used by the EDD in determining whether a worker is correctly classified as an independent contractor, the process of an EDD audit, best practices in properly classifying workers as independent contractors, and what liabilities, including penalties, employers may face if they misclassify workers as independent contractors.
