Bridgeport Continuing Education -- Mastering the Deposition

Fundamentals of Depositions — the Legal Landscape and Strategic Planning

Overview

San Francisco partner Cheryl Orr spoke at a Bridgeport Continuing Education seminar titled “Mastering the Deposition” on Thursday, Jan. 19, in San Francisco.

The seminar recognized that the ability to plan and take outstanding depositions determines the value of a case, the outcome of dispositive motions, and who wins at trial.

Cheryl, co-chair of the firm’s Labor & Employment Practice Group, presented “Fundamentals of Depositions — the Legal Landscape and Strategic Planning.”

Cheryl’s presentation included the advantages and disadvantages of depositions as a discovery tool; how to prepare for depositions; the strategic decisions involved in what depositions to take and when; preparing exhibits for deposition; what admonitions to give the witness; preparing witnesses; objections; and how to conclude the deposition.
