An Open MEP Followed Me Home...Can I Keep It?

ASPPA Annual Conference

Overview

Los Angeles partner Bruce Ashton spoke at the American Society of Pension Professionals & Actuaries (ASPPA) Annual Conference on Monday, Oct. 29, in National Harbor, Maryland.

Bruce presented a workshop on “Non-Investment Fiduciary Issues” and co-presented “An Open MEP Followed Me Home...Can I Keep It?”

The latter presentation addressed the unaffiliated, or open, multiple employer plan concept (MEPs), which continues to be a topic that generates plenty of debate, including whether they are considered single plans or collections of separate plans and the pros and cons of participating in such a plan. Bruce and his co-presenter reviewed some of the key elements of the MEP debate and discussed some best practices for those who are interested in dipping their toes into the MEP waters.
