The SUPPORT for Patients and Communities Act: What You Need to Know about the New Law’s Expansion of Criminal Laws against Paying for Patient Referrals

Overview

Philadelphia partner Tony Pozos will speak at the RCPA Conference in a workshop titled, “The SUPPORT for Patients and Communities Act: What You Need to Know about the New Law’s Expansion of Criminal Laws against Paying for Patient Referrals” on September 26, 2019, in Hershey, Pennsylvania.

Tony will discuss the anti-kickback provisions of the SUPPORT for Patients and Communities Act, known as the Eliminating Kickbacks in Recovery Act of 2018, which were enacted in October 2018 and which go beyond the scope of the federal Anti-Kickback Statute. The new law applies to items and services that are reimbursed by federal healthcare programs. Tony will also explore the scope of the law, “safe harbors” providing further guidance on what is and is not allowed under the law, and common situations that can create difficulties under the law.
