Don’t Try This at Home: The Questionable Ethics of “Better Call Saul”

Overview

Washington, D.C. partner Mercedes Meyer will speak at the upcoming AIPLA Spring Meeting to be held May 15-17, 2019, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Her May 17 Ethics CLE titled “Don’t Try this at Home: The Questionable Ethics of ‘Better Call Saul’” is framed in the context of speaking to the character of Saul Goodman of the television series Breaking Bad and its spinoff Better Call Saul.

Using an engaging slide deck, Mercedes will discuss the advertising landscape since as the Supreme Court decision in Sperry for patent agents practicing patent law without a law license in Florida, and Bates, where the Supreme Court ruled that there is a First Amendment right to advertise (prior to 1977 lawyers could not advertise). The presentation also will focus on the relationships between attorney, funder/invention company, and investor/client in addition to billing practices and payment methods.
