Tales from International Publishing

Overview

Washington, DC of counsel Janet Fries joined a panel with experts from Washington Area Lawyers for the Arts at the DC Author Festival, hosted by the DC Public Library in partnership with the Library of Congress, on April 27, 2019, at the Library of Congress James Madison Memorial Building in Washington, DC.  Janet’s panel, titled “Tales from International Publishing,” included Barbara Mujica, author of the historical novel, Frida, and professor at Georgetown University and was moderated by John Mason, an art and entertainment and intellectual property attorney and literary agent.

The panel provided its audience with an understanding of aspects of publishing works in an international context in addition to copyright and intellectual property protections. Janet is vice president of the board of directors of the Washington Area Lawyers for the Arts and has represented numerous authors and artists in connection with the business aspects of their craft including negotiating numerous international publishing licenses.
