Analysis of Property Insurance Coverage Issues That Arise Out of Extreme Weather Events

Overview

Dallas partner Neil Rambin presented an “Analysis of Property Insurance Coverage Issues That Arise Out of Extreme Weather Events” at the Federation of Defense & Corporate Counsel’s (FDCC) 2016 Winter Meeting on March 2, 2016.

Although a subject of constant debate, many scientists are predicting that climate change will continue to destabilize the U.S. meteorological system, and cause extreme weather events such as epic floods, hurricanes, tornadoes, hailstorms and wildfires. Needless to say, if these predictions hold true, property insurance carriers are likely to be seriously impacted.

This forum explored legal issues and coverage questions from claims arising out of extreme weather events. Discussion points included proving or disproving weather-related property claims through the use of qualified experts, the latest technological advancements, the use and misuse of public insurance adjusters, the evolution of the appraisal process, and assignment of insurance benefits.
