Faegre Drinker Welcomes Litigation Counsel Berglind Halldorsdottir Birkland

Faegre Drinker announced today that Berglind Halldorsdottir Birkland has joined the firm’s litigation practice as counsel in the Minneapolis office.  Prior to joining the firm, she spent more than 15 years in the international disputes practice of a prominent law firm in New York.

Birkland’s arrival at Faegre Drinker further bolsters the firm’s growing litigation team, which has recently brought on Jeremy Andrews, Heather Burke and Tom Pack.

Birkland has managed large teams of lawyers in complex, high-stakes disputes involving billions of dollars in potential liability and has experience in diverse industries, including mining, pharmaceuticals, financial services, telecommunications, and retail. Her skill in preparing witnesses for testimony and cross-examination has proven invaluable in high-pressure proceedings and she has been praised for the clarity of her written and oral advocacy. This work earned her recognition as a "Future Leader" in the 2024 edition of Who's Who Legal: Arbitration.

"Berglind’s deep background in international disputes and her exceptional advocacy skills make her an invaluable addition to our litigation team," said William Connolly, leader of Faegre Drinker’s litigation group. "Her ability to navigate complex technical facts and construct compelling narratives will enhance our capabilities in delivering outstanding results for our clients. We are thrilled to welcome her to Faegre Drinker."

Birkland, a native of Iceland, earned her Bachelor of Arts summa cum laude from the University of Minnesota before receiving her Juris Doctor from New York University School of Law. She currently serves as an adjunct professor at the University of Minnesota Law School and chairs the International Business Law Section of the Minnesota State Bar Association.

With its team of litigators — including eight Fellows of the American College of Trial Lawyers, former United States Supreme Court clerks, members of the American Academy of Appellate Lawyers, and former federal prosecutors and government agency officials — Faegre Drinker’s litigation group is equipped to provide comprehensive on-the-ground support wherever disputes arise.
