Cheryl Orr Recognized by Kaplan Educational Foundation as an Inaugural ‘Stand Up for Diversity Award’ Honoree

Labor and employment partner Cheryl Orr was one of five honorees to receive an inaugural “Stand Up for Diversity Award” from the Kaplan Educational Foundation (KEF). The award recipients were recognized for their leadership in the KEF community and for playing critical roles in ensuring educational and economic equity for community college students of color nationwide.

Established in 2006 by KEF, the Kaplan Leadership Program helps high-potential, low-income and underrepresented community college students complete their associate degrees and successfully transfer and go on to earn four-year bachelor’s degrees at the nation’s most highly selective schools. The program provides stipends for living expenses, extensive tutoring, academic advisement services, leadership and career training, and other resources and support to help them expand their personal goals and eventually attain leadership roles in their professions and communities.

Employers nationwide make Orr their first call for their most complex employment law matters. Her litigation practice focuses on strategically resolving federal and state class, collective and California Private Attorneys General Act (PAGA) actions, as well as particularly sensitive and thorny single-plaintiff matters. Orr’s litigation experience positions her to work with employers to prevent and/or remedy underlying issues. She and her team provide the full range of employment law counseling, investigation, training and audits (wage and hour, pay equity and human resources compliance) services. Orr leads the firm’s international labor & employment practice and its San Francisco office.
