Elie Biel Named “Safety Project Attorney of the Year” by Tubman

Product liability and mass torts associate Elie Biel was named as Tubman’s 2020 “Safety Project Attorney of the Year.” Tubman’s Safety Project is a pro bono legal representation service for low-income victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking who are seeking Orders for Protection and Harassment Restraining Orders in select Minnesota counties.

Biel was selected for the award for his work representing indigent clients in their pursuit of an Order for Protection or Harassment and Restraining Order in 2020. In the last year, Biel has taken on five representations of Safety Project clients, including an appeals case that is currently active, and regularly appeared in court on behalf of his clients even during the height of the pandemic shutdown. He has also volunteered to take several other cases that had already found Safety Project representation.

In an announcement, Tubman praised Biel’s work with Safety Project clients, noting that “it is clear that Elie provides thoughtful and thorough representation for clients, seeking understanding of their lives and doing extra work to ensure they receive the best possible legal outcome.”

In addition to his pro bono work, Biel helps clients defend, resolve, prevent and manage medical device and pharmaceutical product liability litigation. As a member of the firm’s product liability and mass torts group, Biel works with clients to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of their cases and helps them manage risk and pursue favorable solutions through arbitration, mediation, settlement or trial.

Biel earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Rochester and his Juris Doctor from the University of Minnesota Law School.
