Jesse Witten Quoted in Bloomberg BNA’s Health Care Fraud Report

Washington, D.C. partner Jesse Witten was quoted in a Health Care Fraud Report article titled “Nurses Hit Hardest by Medicare and Medicaid Exclusions.”

A recent Bloomberg BNA study found that nurses account for significantly more exclusions than physicians from the Medicare and Medicaid programs, with license revocations in particular accounting for 70 percent of those nursing exclusions.

Jesse commented on potential reasons for the discrepancy, including closer supervision of nurses and state laws automatically triggering notification of regulatory boards in the event of potential legal action. He noted that “[d]octors are not as closely supervised by their employers and some are entirely in private practice, so there are fewer employers who come to learn of physician misconduct.”
