Cheryl Orr Recognized as a Top Labor and Employment Lawyer by Daily Journal

Cheryl Orr, managing partner and chair of Drinker Biddle’s national Labor and Employment Group, has been named a Top Labor and Employment Lawyer in California by the Daily Journal. This is the third year Cheryl has been recognized by the publication, which is California’s largest legal newspaper.

The annual list recognizes California’s top attorneys who have made significant contributions in labor and employment law. Cheryl’s profile highlights her work in the retail industry on the myriad issues that retailers face, including off-the-clock claims, suitable seating concerns and bag checks.

“My practice is heavily concentrated in retail, with a great breadth and diversity of clients,” Cheryl said. “Retailers tend to have a large hourly workforce, so they face large and complex classification issues.”

Cheryl successfully negotiated a settlement on behalf of a national financial services client that faced claims from current and former client advisers in Nevada under federal and state fair labor standards statutes regarding overtime pay and failure to timely pay all wages due upon separation. Just weeks after the plaintiffs filed their case, Cheryl successfully filed a motion to dismiss all state law claims.

Resolving up to a quarter of potential class actions “sooner rather than later,” Cheryl noted her team’s goal to always get in, and get out fast. “It’s fascinating to work with a great team,” Cheryl said.

Cheryl was honored with the award at a reception at the Montage Beverly Hills on July 18.
