The Legal Intelligencer Names Drinker Biddle Corporate Restructuring Practice the Best in Pennsylvania

Drinker Biddle’s Corporate Restructuring Practice has been named the top Bankruptcy/Reorganization practice in Pennsylvania, according to The Legal Intelligencer’s 2015 Best Law Firm Corporate Practices contest.

The Legal asked Pennsylvania law firms to share their biggest deals and best examples of the work that makes clients turn to them. The work submitted by firms was done largely in Pennsylvania and throughout the rest of the country, with some matters taking place overseas. The key for inclusion was that the work was done primarily by Pennsylvania lawyers. According to The Legal, the contest identified the Pennsylvania firms making an impact with their corporate and transactional work.

The Legal designated five corporate practices for the results: General, Bankruptcy/Reorganization, Corporate Governance, Finance/M&A, Intellectual Property and Real Estate, with Drinker Biddle winning the Bankruptcy/Reorganization

“Our Corporate Restructuring Group continues to thrive in Pennsylvania and we are extremely pleased to be recognized by The Legal based solely on the good work we do,” said Kristin Going, Chair of Drinker Biddle’s Corporate Restructuring Group. “This is a significant recognition, of which we are very proud.”

Drinker Biddle’s Chairman Andrew Kassner is well-known to the Philadelphia bankruptcy bar and is ranked by Chambers & Partners USA as one of only three “Star Individuals” in Pennsylvania. He is also a fellow in the American College of Bankruptcy. Andrew Flame and litigation partner Paul Saint-Antoine, who was instrumental in the Detroit bankruptcy, are also ranked by Chambers in Pennsylvania.  In addition to our significant Pennsylvania practice, Drinker Biddle’s Corporate Restructuring practice has been growing significantly in both New York and Delaware.  In Pennsylvania, the team continues the tradition of representing secured lenders in significant restructurings and bankruptcy cases and remains active in significant cases in Pennsylvania and throughout the country.

Recent practice highlights include:

  • The representation of the Indenture Trustee of a bond issue in excess of $1.3 billion in the City of Detroit bankruptcy, the most followed bankruptcy case of 2014.
  • The representation of the secured lender in the Oz Gas Co. bankruptcy cases, pending in the Erie, Pennsylvania, Bankruptcy Court.
  • The representation of Textron Financial Corporation in the restructuring and receivership proceedings of the Split Rock and Mountain Laurel Resorts, a timeshare resort community located in the Pocono Mountains.
