Carl Pebworth and Monica Fennell Appointed to Indiana Supreme Court Groups

Faegre Baker Daniels LLP professionals Carl Pebworth, partner, and Monica Fennell, pro bono manager, were appointed by the Indiana Supreme Court to participate in Court-sponsored initiatives to increase pro bono assistance to Indiana residents.

Pebworth has been appointed to the newly created Indiana Commission to Expand Access to Civil Legal Services. The Commission's mission is to assess, enhance and expand the availability and provision of civil legal services to Indiana residents with limited financial resources. Pebworth is among the first group of 17 members to serve on the Commission, which is responsible for fostering the coordination of the delivery of civil legal services, developing a five-year plan to improve and enhance legal resources to disadvantaged Indiana residents and providing the Indiana Supreme Court with an annual progress report.

Fennell was asked to join a task force charged with exploring implementation of a statewide system of annual reporting for volunteer attorney pro bono service hours. Last fall, the Indiana State Bar Association House of Delegates and other law-related organizations passed resolutions supporting a rule requiring annual reporting of pro bono work by licensed Indiana attorneys. The task force is led by Judge Martha Blood Wentworth, and has been urged to create a comprehensive plan by May 2014.
