Overview

Vance Wittie represents clients involved in complex litigation, helping them navigate individual suits, mass actions, class actions and appellate cases. His practice emphasizes the complex legal issues that arise in modern “campaign litigation” as well as textual disputes over the meaning of contracts, statutes and constitutional provisions. Vance supports a wide range of industries, including the automotive, health care and insurance industries. He brings to bear skills in the appellate arena, guiding clients through the procedural and substantive intricacies of such litigation.

Consumer Litigation

Consumer class actions, product liability and mass tort litigation are the linchpin of Vance’s practice. His client base consists of automobile manufacturers, engineering firms and insurance companies, among others. He has a particular emphasis on defeating class certification, and, in appropriate cases, defending class settlements from challenge. Vance has also obtained dismissal of clients, summary judgments and reversal of judgments in consumer litigation.

Insurance Litigation

Vance goes toe-to-toe for clients in insurance disputes. His advocacy has led to the reversal of an order denying arbitration in a reinsurance case; dismissal of a suit alleging wrongful settlement by an excess reinsurer; and the successful prosecution of an appeal for a reinsurer in a complex premium dispute, as well as other positive results. Insurers look to Vance for strategies for early resolution of claims and to reverse and defend judgments on appeal.

Personal Interests

Vance loves acting, history and bird-watching.
