Scott Burns partners with clients in construction and real estate transactions, including acquisitions, dispositions, leasing and project development. A former business leader in the retail, restaurant and health care industries, Scott delivers business-minded counsel to companies pursuing new real estate opportunities or looking to right-size their footprint. He advises institutions, REITs, investors and developers in transactions involving both individual real property assets and broader real estate portfolios and assists clients with their nationwide real estate needs.

President & CEO of Sagamore Medical Recovery Services

Before joining Faegre Drinker, Scott served as president and CEO of Sagamore Medical Recovery Services, LLC (Sagamore), an Indiana-based medical services provider with a core mission of helping patients recovering from opioid addiction. Sagamore partnered with a large Indiana community mental health center, a pioneering for-profit and non-profit arrangement recognized within the industry, and was described by the Indiana Division of Mental Health and Addiction as “cutting edge.” In his role, he oversaw medical and most clinical operations for the organization, which treated approximately 375 patients a day.

In-House Leadership

In two in-house positions, Scott gained significant experience helping companies with large real estate footprints complete myriad transactions and manage their property assets.

In over two years as senior counsel for a large franchisee and restauranteur with 200+ restaurant locations across seven states, Scott was responsible for site leasing, acquisition, development/redevelopment and operational matters. He also provided zoning and development counsel; negotiated easement agreements and general contractor and construction agreements; and worked closely with engineers, construction managers, site development professionals and others at all stages of project development.

Scott also spent more than two years as retail development counsel for an Idaho-based retail grocery operation with more than 100 stores. In this role, he served as lead attorney on all real estate and construction-related transactions, including buying, selling, leasing, development and operational matters.

Scott served as a corporate and real estate attorney at our firm for over eight years before moving in-house. In that role, he represented public and private clients across the country on a range of issues, with a particular focus on transactional real estate and corporate matters, business litigation and employment issues.
