Veteran Real Estate Counsel Scott Burns Rejoins Faegre Drinker in Fort Wayne

Faegre Drinker announced today that Scott Burns rejoined the firm as counsel in the real estate practice in Fort Wayne. Burns returned to the firm from Sagamore Medical Recovery Services, LLC, and was formerly with Faegre Baker Daniels from 2005 to 2013.

Burns partners with clients in construction and real estate transactions, including acquisitions, dispositions, leasing and project development. A former business leader in the retail, restaurant and health care industries, he delivers business-minded counsel to companies pursuing new real estate opportunities or looking to right-size their footprint. Burns also advises institutions, REITs, investors and developers in transactions involving both individual real property assets and broader real estate portfolios.

“Scott brings excellent business acumen and substantial experience handling sophisticated and complex real estate transactions across key markets,” said Scott Anderegg, leader of the firm’s real estate practice group. “We are excited to welcome him back as he joins the team in assisting clients and advancing their real estate objectives and business goals.”

Before rejoining Faegre Drinker, Burns served as president and CEO of Sagamore Medical Recovery Services, LLC, an Indiana-based medical services provider with a core mission of helping patients recovering from opioid addiction. In this role, he oversaw medical and most clinical operations for the organization, which treated approximately 375 patients a day.

In two in-house positions, Burns gained significant experience helping companies with large real estate footprints complete myriad transactions and manage their property assets.

In over two years as senior counsel for a large franchisee and restauranteur with over 200+ restaurant locations across seven states, Burns was responsible for all site leasing, acquisition, development/redevelopment and operational matters. He also provided zoning and development counsel; negotiated easement agreements and general contractor and construction agreements; and worked closely with engineers, construction managers, site-development professionals and others at all stages of project development.

Burns spent more than two years as retail development counsel for an Idaho-based retail grocery operation with more than 100 stores. In this role, he served as lead attorney on all real estate and construction-related transactions, including buying, selling, leasing, development and operational matters.

Additionally, Burns served as a corporate and real estate attorney at our firm for over eight years before moving in-house. In that role, he represented public and private clients across the country on a range of issues, with a particular focus on transactional real estate and corporate matters, business litigation and employment issues. Burns also previously served as a corporate and litigation attorney at a business and entertainment litigation boutique firm in Beverly Hills, California.

Burns earned his Juris Doctor from the Vanderbilt University Law School and his bachelor’s degree from the University of Washington.

With approximately 100 professionals, Faegre Drinker’s highly experienced real estate team handles real estate acquisitions, dispositions, investments, financing, and development and land-leasing matters, as well as disputes that may arise in the course of such transactions. With a national reach and unparalleled experience, the team possesses the breadth to handle projects of any scale or complexity and to advance clients’ business goals.
