Mollie Sitkowski Discusses Compliance Landscape Amid Increased Forced-Labor Enforcement With Law360

In “Forced-Labor Enforcement Surge Muddles Compliance Efforts,” government and regulatory affairs counsel Mollie Sitkowski spoke to Law360 about increased import bans and enforcement efforts by U.S. Customs and Border Protection over forced-labor concerns.

As companies fortify documentation of their current supply chains, Sitkowski said, “The hardest part for most importers is, if their goods get detained, providing all the documentation that Customs wants.” She added, “It’s more documentation than could ever be expected.”

Sitkowski also noted that most importers are rallying behind a bill championed by Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., called the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act in hopes of getting a seat at the table as the next round of forced-labor import rules are written.

“That’s why companies are getting on board. If they are on board now, they want to work with everyone who is going to be involved in setting the standards to get the standards to be something that businesses can deal with,” Sitkowski said.
