Tax-Exempt Organization Successfully Resolves IRS Audit

Faegre Drinker represented a large 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization in an IRS audit. After an intrusive two-year audit, the IRS revenue agent recommended revoking our client’s federal income tax exemption and stripping it of its 501(c)(3) status. We persuaded the IRS internal appeals unit not to follow the revenue agent’s recommendation and the IRS instead entered a settlement with our client and required no changes to our client’s operations.

For the appeal, we assisted our client in obtaining more than 800 testimonials from individuals who received assistance from our client regarding the importance of our client’s work, as well as statements of support from other charitable organizations.
