City of Indianapolis Works Through Environmental Issues in Sale of Former Coca-Cola Plant

United States - Indiana

The City of Indianapolis sold a former Coca-Cola plant to a private developer in a booming downtown area. Our firm negotiated and oversaw the transaction, which was complicated by the discovery of chlorinated solvents that potentially arose from the historic bottling operations into an off-site residential area. Completing the transaction involved developing and obtaining buy-in from the state environmental agency, the local municipality, the neighborhood, insurers and developers to share responsibilities for voluntary remediation of the property and off-site areas so that redevelopment could occur on a timely basis and the property could be returned to productive use.
