National Company Overhauls Immigration Compliance Policies and Secures Training for Legal and HR Departments

North America - United States

A company with facilities in all regions of the U.S. faced growing concerns over increased immigration efforts of the federal government. Our firm drafted a comprehensive new set of immigration compliance policies and procedures for this client.

The new policy included tandem protocol designed to unify the training methods and resources for the various human resources teams of all company business units. The policies and protocol were designed to provide HR teams and hiring managers with updated, online materials to address I-9 completion, I-9 problem resolution, E-Verify processes, as well as new processes to bring a uniform approach in investigating and resolving reports of potential social security number (SSN) misuse, identity theft, document fraud or illegal employment.

Our lawyers trained the company’s legal and HR departments on the new policy, which included the steps to be followed in the event of an unannounced site-visit by immigration agents or law enforcement officers, for example, in connection with the issuance of immigration-related subpoenas, warrants, or notices of an audit or federal or state investigation. The new policy was distributed to all facility managers, the security department, and all gate and reception personnel.
