Overview
Clients appreciate Alex’s patient, approachable style and his ability to bring humor and perspective to conversations that can feel technical, emotional, or both. He sees himself as a teacher and collaborator rather than a dictator of outcomes, helping clients understand their options, anticipate family dynamics, and make decisions with confidence. His goal is to help clients shape financial legacies that reflect their values, family priorities, and hopes for the future.
Trust & Estate Planning
Alex works closely with clients to design and implement estate plans that are both sophisticated and practical. His work includes complex gifting transactions, private family foundations, post-death trust administrations, and other tax and nontax planning matters. He also advises on cross-border estate plans involving multijurisdictional tax and succession issues.
He enjoys helping clients navigate important life transitions, including divorce, retirement, relocation, changes in family structure, and planning for beneficiaries who may need added support. Alex also works with a wide range of families, including married and unmarried LGBTQ+ couples with and without children.
Family Offices
For family offices, Alex provides practical, steady counsel on ongoing administration, fiduciary matters, investment entity structuring, tax compliance coordination, and intergenerational wealth transfer planning. He helps families and their advisers manage complexity while keeping long-term goals and family priorities in view.
Tax Counsel
Alex represents taxpayers before the Internal Revenue Service and state taxing authorities in income tax collection and compliance matters, and he prepares and oversees federal estate tax returns, gift tax returns, and generation-skipping transfer tax allocations.
He also assists with county-specific tax matters, including California real estate tax issues and business tax matters, helping clients connect tax planning with ownership, succession, and administration goals.
Personal Interests
Outside the office, Alex enjoys exploring Chicago’s residential architecture, restaurants, and neighborhoods. He is an avid cook and dog lover, and he enjoys British programming, particularly period pieces and detective shows.
