As Gina Kastel assumed her role as chair, effective April 1, 2023, legal and business publications alike interviewed her on the transition to chair and her goals for the firm going forward.

Kastel spoke to The American Lawyer about where the firm is looking to grow, including bolstering recruitment efforts and investing in practice areas. She stated, “Everything that we prioritize starts with our clients; our clients always come first.” Kastel added, “We’re thinking about, ‘How do we deepen our relationships with our clients, especially through cross-service and collaboration?’ We have just a tremendous client list, and we have untapped opportunities to serve them in additional ways.”

In a Q&A with Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal, Kastel discussed the excitement and optimism among the firm looking forward, noting, “We’re off to a great start in 2023; we’ve had our busiest month since our combination in this first quarter, and all three months were very strong.” Regarding the current legal landscape for clients, she noted, “One thing that they’re experiencing is a lot of regulatory uncertainty and increased regulation, so we’re thinking a lot about our regulatory practices. We have a really strong regulatory bench.”

In “Meet the Women Leading Minnesota Law Firms,” Twin Cities Business highlighted Kastel’s career path to chair. Kastel emphasized the importance of building relationships with colleagues. When asked about advice for young women attorneys, Kastel said, “When people recognize they actually have a lot of ability to shape the world around them, that helps them step up into leadership roles.”
