Kate Sherburne Comments on Minnesota M&A Activity With Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal

In “Calmer Seas for M&A,” Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal (MSPBJ) turned to corporate partner Kate Sherburne for insight on trends in Minnesota mergers and acquisitions in 2022 and what to expect for M&A activity in 2023.

“2021 was just an absolute blockbuster,” Sherburne said. “2022 was a great year, but it just felt like things slowed down compared to 2021.” She added, “Valuations are going to be tighter,” noting that across the M&A landscape, the number of megadeals dropped in 2022.

Sherburne also stated that buyers might have the upper hand at this point, and deal prices might be trimmed compared to last year. “As a seller, you should expect buyers are going to do more diligence,” she said. “Minor deviations that they would have overlooked might give buyers pause.”
