Hannah Anderson Speaks With Minnesota Lawyer About the Impact of the Pandemic on Junior Attorneys

Minneapolis associate Hannah Anderson discussed with Minnesota Lawyer the challenges junior attorneys have encountered as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Anderson shares her experiences in the article “Pandemic adds to challenges encountered by junior attorneys.”

Anderson noted how working remotely has impacted efforts to build rapport with judges. Attorneys and judges do not have those informal interactions that build rapport “when the court need only ‘appear’ for the duration of a phone call,” she explained.

The article also expands on some of the challenges of working from home. Anderson shared that frequently checking in with her colleagues “ensures that I (and others) stay on top of our cases, and it’s allowed me to communicate my availability and interest in working on matters when I otherwise wouldn’t have a chance to connect in person with the case team.”

She also highlighted how she has been able to work with diverse teams using technology, something that would have been less likely before the pandemic.

Lastly, Anderson discussed how the pandemic and attending law school outside of Minnesota has made growing her professional network outside of her firm challenging, but that state and local bar associations have helped her grow those connections.
