Minnesota Legislative Update: Governor Walz Unveils Proposed Budget

The unveiling of Governor Tim Walz’s (DFL) biennial budget was the major news at the Minnesota Legislature this week. Governor Walz’s $52.4 billion proposed budget for the next biennium is an 8.5% increase over from Fiscal Year 2020-2021. This serves as the starting point, and the next step comes at the end of February, when the February economic and budget forecast is released by the Minnesota Office of Management and Budget. Then, both the House and Senate will begin crafting their own biennial budget plans.
