The government recently instructed the Migration Advisory Committee (MAC) to consider and recommend policy decisions to the government on aspects of Tier 2. The tenor of the government's questions posed to MAC perhaps reveals its intentions. The questions include the following.
- Should the skill level constituting a "graduate-level position" – a prerequisite for a Tier 2 position - be raised?
- Is the £40,000 minimum salary threshold for ICTs seeking to stay longer than 12 months a reasonable minimum level?
- Should the Tier 2 (ICT) category be restricted to jobs satisfying the GATS definition of senior managers and specialists?
