Most of the 92 counties throughout Indiana are mailing the Spring 2010 tax bills this month, with due dates of May 10, 2010, and November 10, 2010. In most counties, the Spring 2010 tax bill will serve as the notice of the March 1, 2009, assessment as fewer counties are mailing Notices of Assessment to save tax dollars. If you receive a Notice of Assessment for the March 1, 2009, assessment date, the appeal opportunity to contest that assessment is 45 days from the date that the notice is mailed. If you do not receive a Notice of Assessment for the March 1, 2009, assessment date, the appeal opportunity to contest the March 1, 2009, assessment is 45 days from the date the Spring 2010 tax bill is mailed. So taxpayers need to pay particular attention to tax bills this year.
With regard to Marion County taxpayers (City of Indianapolis), the Marion County Treasurer began mailing the Spring 2010 tax bills on Monday, April 5, and will mail bills through Friday, April 16. Although the Marion County Assessor has not set the final appeal deadline yet, we anticipate that the appeal deadline will be set the last week of May or first week of June.Updates
