Higher Education Opportunity Act Final Rule – Accrediting Agency Recognition
On October 27, 2009, the Department of Education released its Final Rule on accrediting agency recognition criteria and procedures. The Rule becomes effective on July 1, 2010. The Rule closely mirrors the proposed changes published on August 6, 2009, but with a significant change related to accrediting agency appeals panels. The preamble to the Final Rule summarizes comments received on the proposed changes and provides additional insight into the Department’s analysis in arriving at a Final Rule. We have highlighted particular priorities of interest.
