Private Postsecondary Schools and Data Privacy – It’s So Much More than FERPA

Overview

Washington, D.C. partner Jonathan Tarnow and counsel Katherine Armstrong presented at the 2019 Annual Convention of Career Education Colleges and Universities (CECU) on June 4 in New Orleans, Louisiana. Jonathan and Katherine delivered a session titled “Private Postsecondary Schools and Data Privacy – It’s So Much More than FERPA,” in which they discussed the myriad of data privacy and security laws that can apply to higher education institutions other than the Family Educational Rights Privacy Act of 1974, including the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, HIPAA, the Fair Credit Reporting Act, the Telephone Consumer Protection Act, the New York Cybersecurity Regulation, the EU General Data Protection Regulation and the California Consumer Privacy Act.
