Don't Bet the Company! Strategies for Reducing Class Action Exposure

Partners Kristin Shepard and Justin Kay presented “Don't Bet the Company! Strategies for Reducing Class Action Exposure” to the Chicago chapter of the Association of Corporate Counsel on November 6, 2019. They were joined by Lorrie Leonard, VP and associate GC of Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty, in discussing practical tips to reduce a company’s class action exposure.

Kristin and Justin gave particular attention to the intersection of class action risk with privacy and cybersecurity law—which is the projected top-growth practice in BTI Consulting Group’s Practice Outlook 2020 Report. They also explored class actions under the Illinois Biometric Privacy Act and other areas of high exposure. In addition, Kristin and Justin considered open questions in class action law and the political uncertainties that may materially impact a company’s class action risk, as well as strategies to effectively partner with outside counsel.
