Patentable Subject Matter: An International Perspective

Bob Stoll, Washington, D.C., partner and co-chair of the intellectual property group, participated on a panel at the 2018 Sedona Conference on International Patent Litigation, “Aspirations Toward Attaining Effective Global IP Protection,” on February 26-27 in Reston, Virginia. The Sedona Conference is a nonprofit research and educational institute dedicated to the advanced study of law and policy in the areas of antitrust law, complex litigation and intellectual property. This year’s International Patent Litigation Conference focused on changes in the legal landscape, domestically and abroad, that create new risks and opportunities for patent enforcement. Hosted by co-chairs Monte Cooper of Orrick and Teresa Rea of Cromwell & Moring, and featuring judges, government officials and counsel, the conference’s sessions covered topics such as alternatives to the U.S. District Court litigation model, approaches across different international patent regimes, and the future for domestic enforcement of IP activities occurring abroad. Bob participated in a panel titled “Patentable Subject Matter: An International Perspective,” where he discussed U.S. legislative efforts to fix patent subject matter eligibility.
