Creating & Maintaining Successful Female Groups

Overview

Washington, D.C. partner Mercedes Meyer presented at the American Conference Institute’s 4th Annual Women Leaders in Life Sciences Law conference. Mercedes’ presentation, titled “Creating & Maintaining Successful Female Groups,” educated the audience on the current representation of women in the life sciences legal industry and discussed the business imperatives behind diversity and inclusion. Mercedes also spoke on how to design and carry out practices so that traditionally underrepresented groups have a path to success, both in corporate and law firm settings.

The presentation encouraged the audience to self-reflect on unconscious bias, be objective about what they observe in the workplace, identify and participate in external groups including associations, mentoring and common-interest groups, and discuss which diversity initiatives are working, which aren’t, and why.

Mercedes was joined by Courtney Camp Enloe, Chief Counsel Manufacturing Relationships at McKesson Corporation, Monique Hunt McWilliams, Chief Diversity Officer at Eli Lilly and Company, Jennifer Santos, Senior Corporate Counsel at Vertex Pharmaceuticals, and Lisa J. Pirozzolo, Partner, Co-Chair Intellectual Property Litigation Practice Group, Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr LLP.
