Patents and Patent Matter Eligibility

Overview

Washington, D.C., partner and co-chair of the IP group Bob Stoll participated in the National CLE Conference in Snowmass, Colorado, from January 4-8, 2016. On January 7, Bob participated in a panel moderated by Don Dunner, with Judge Kimberly Moore and Judge Kara Stoll from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, Judge Liam O’Grady from the Eastern District of Virginia, and Professor Rochelle Dreyfuss from New York University.

The panel’s topics included patent trolls, the role of the different courts in patent cases, venue issues and patent subject matter eligibility issues. Bob stated that with legislative and Supreme Court changes in patent subject matter eligibility laws unlikely in the near term, judges and the USPTO should lean over their skis as much as possible to protect patent subject matter eligibility and economic growth in the U.S.
