Alumnus Chris Liwski Featured in Modern Counsel

In this feature, Chris Liwski, a senior litigator for Sanofi US’s litigation and government investigations team, gives readers insight into how his legal team’s direct action and internal investigation helped the U.S. Department of Justice reach a $465 million settlement with pharmaceutical company Mylan in an EpiPen false-claims case.

After Sanofi noticed some unusual market activity, Chris mobilized a team to conduct an in-house investigation, which ultimately provided the DOJ with the evidence it needed to take up the case, and laid the foundation for a separate antitrust complaint filed in April 2017 in the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey.

Chris is a two-time member of the United States Olympic Rowing Team and a former rowing world champion. He was an alternate for the men’s coxed eight team in both the 2004 and 2008 Olympics. After the 2008 Olympics, Chris joined the in-house legal department of Johnson & Johnson, and in 2009 he became an associate in the Products Liability group at Drinker Biddle. He remained with the firm until he joined Sanofi in 2013.

Read more about these cases, the strategic, proactive and offensive legal approach Chris believes is critical for effective in-house counsel in today’s competitive market, and how Chris’s approach draws on his background as an athlete in Modern Counsel here.
