FaegreBD Strengthens Labor and Employment Group in Washington, D.C. with Addition of Jim Philbin

Jim Philbin has joined Faegre Baker Daniels as counsel in the firm’s labor and employment group in Washington, D.C. Philbin is a labor lawyer, litigator and corporate counsel who leverages 25 years of experience as a partner in a global law firm and over a decade of experience as a corporate executive, director and the general counsel of Maersk Inc., the North American subsidiary of A. P. Moller-Maersk A/S.

At FaegreBD, Philbin applies his diverse background and business perspective to help clients solve complex corporate challenges including regulatory compliance, labor and employment law, corporate investigations and crisis management. He has advised clients in industries such as international transportation and logistics, manufacturing, financial services, defense, consumer products, petrochemicals, pharmaceuticals and public construction.

“Jim’s expertise further strengthens FaegreBD’s labor and employment group both on the ground in Washington, D.C. and nationally,” said Scott Wright, leader of the firm’s labor and employment practice. “Jim possesses a multifaceted understanding of the complex and ever-changing employment laws and regulations and their impact on businesses, and utilizes his decades of experience to provide pragmatic, business-oriented counsel to clients.”

Philbin also advises and represents employers in dispute resolution and litigation, including class actions and other cases involving employment discrimination. Further, Philbin counsels clients on labor relations matters, including collective bargaining, representation, election campaigns, arbitration and strikes. He has negotiated project labor agreements (PLAs) on behalf of government entities in numerous states and has successfully defended PLAs when challenged in courts.

Lastly, Philbin advises on compliance with U.S. and international corporate laws and regulations such as:  the FCPA, U.K. Bribery Act and corruption laws; Federal Acquisition Regulations; False Claims Act; OFAC and export controls; and competition laws. He is experienced in conducting high-stakes U.S. and international investigations involving the Departments of Justice, Labor and Treasury, and foreign enforcement agencies and prosecutors. On behalf of clients, Philbin has interfaced and successfully resolved matters with the Departments of Justice, Treasury, Commerce, Labor and Homeland Security, Customs, FBI, Federal Maritime Commission, Surface Transportation Board and Environmental Protection Agency.

Philbin earned his law degree from New York University School of Law and graduated with a D.D.S. from Columbia University School of Dental and Oral Surgery. He received a bachelor’s degree from University of Notre Dame.
