Justin Kay Interview Discussing Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act Aired by National Public Radio in Chicago

Chicago partner Justin Kay discussed Illinois’ Biometric Information Privacy Act (BIPA) on Chicago National Public Radio (NPR) radio station WBEZ 91.5 for the Newscast segment aired on September 12, 2017 during “All Things Considered: Hour 2.”

The segment noted that there has been a recent increase in the number of lawsuits filed under BIPA, a law that regulates the use of biometric information. In this radio segment, Justin notes the considerable changes in technology since the law’s inception in 2008. He also explains that the legislation is meant to address both a company’s or individual’s collection of biometric information and the potential misuse of that information. He also noted that statute requires that a plaintiff show that he/she suffered actual harm.
