James Sawyer Quoted in Bloomberg BNA on President Trump’s Renegotiation of NAFTA and Proposed Border Tax

Chicago partner James Sawyer was quoted in a Bloomberg BNA article titled “Agriculture Analysts Urge Caution on NAFTA Renegotiation.” This article examines the integrated agriculture industry between the U.S., Mexico and Canada and explains how President Trump’s renegotiation of NAFTA could affect this relationship and strongly impact the prices of agricultural commodities from Mexico that are not produced in large quantities in the U.S.

James stated, “The currently proposed border adjustment tax would disproportionately affect the agriculture sector. The reason is that importers of agricultural products from Mexico and elsewhere are unlikely to benefit from the proposed tax exemptions on income from exports.”
