Faegre Baker Daniels Pro Bono Manager Candace Whitaker Named 2013 Outstanding Legal Professional

Candace Whitaker, pro bono manager at Faegre Baker Daniels LLP, was named as a 2013 Outstanding Legal Professional by Law Week Colorado. Whitaker was selected for her exceptional work supporting the pro bono practice and attorneys for Faegre Baker Daniels' Denver, Boulder and Des Moines offices.

Law Week Colorado praised her for successful management of the Africa Advocacy Project, which focused on advancing the rule of law and human rights in 18 African countries. More than 120 FaegreBD attorneys and 11 paralegals participated in the program and logged thousands of pro bono hours for the firm's legal services partner, The Advocates for Human Rights.

"Candace goes above and beyond the duties and expectations her position requires and is most deserving of this important award," said Dianne Heins, director and pro bono counsel, Faegre Baker Daniels. "She is a true ambassador for pro bono both inside and outside the firm with astute understanding of the practice and a unique ability to continually leverage firm resources to meet the legal needs of underserved communities."

Faegre Baker Daniels' pro bono practice is focused on a shared vision of service to the community. Work includes legal advocacy on behalf of people with disabilities, veterans, survivors of domestic violence, and children and families; representation of LGBT organizations and individuals; documentation of international human rights violations; provision of legal services to low-income clients in community-based clinics; representation of refugees and individuals seeking asylum and provision of legal services to nonprofit agencies in our communities.
