Faegre & Benson Recognizes ‘National Pro Bono Week' by Sponsoring U-Visa Training with Denver-based RMIAN

Faegre & Benson will recognize the American Bar Association's "National Pro Bono Week" by sponsoring U-Visa training with the Rocky Mountain Immigrant Advocacy Network (RMIAN) on Thursday, October 28, 2010. U-Visas are special visas that give immigrant victims of certain crimes – rape, domestic violence or sexual assault, for example – temporary legal status.

Sponsored by the ABA's Standing Committee on Pro Bono and Public Service, this year's "National Pro Bono Week" is October 24-30, 2010. It is a coordinated national effort to meet the ever-growing needs of this country's most vulnerable populations by encouraging and supporting local efforts to expand the delivery of pro bono legal services, and by showcasing the great difference that pro bono lawyers make to the nation, its system of justice, its communities, and, most of all, to the clients they serve.

"Our firm is deeply committed to the communities in which we live and work, and we recognize that immigrants are often among the most vulnerable," said Candace Whitaker, Colorado Pro Bono & Community Service Coordinator at Faegre & Benson. "We are pleased to partner with RMIAN in an effort to serve individuals in these vulnerable communities by providing U-Visa training."

The U-Visa training session will take place on Thursday, October 28 from 9:00 a.m. to 12 noon MDT at Faegre & Benson's office in downtown Denver. Speakers and trainers will include Faegre & Benson attorney Melinda Pasquini and RMIAN Executive Director Mekela Goehring.
