Baker & Daniels Summer Associates Partner with Lilly Boys & Girls Club

Summer associates at Baker & Daniels LLP are partnering with the Lilly Boys & Girls Club for a community service project this week.
On Thursday, the firm's summer associates will accompany the Lilly Club kids through their daily routine, including participation in sports, arts and crafts, and other fun activities. They also are overseeing a toy and supply drive at Baker & Daniels' two Indianapolis offices. Supplies will be delivered on the community service day to the club, a shelter that provides safe haven for underprivileged children in Indianapolis.
"I'm thrilled to see our summer associates embracing public service initiatives in their day-to-day professional culture," said Carl Pebworth, a Baker & Daniels partner who chairs the firm's pro bono and public interest committee. "I hope the experience inspires each of them to make public interest and pro bono work an important part of their legal career."
Baker & Daniels is hosting 41 summer associates this year. The class was allowed to select and plan its own community service project.
"Our goal is to serve as positive role models for the youth," summer associates Kathryn Olivier and Mitzie Moore explained in a joint statement. "We also hope that our participation will inspire them to think more about their future careers."
Baker & Daniels' summer associates represent law schools nationwide, ranging from Berkley to North Carolina to Harvard. This year's class collaboration to support the approximately 150 children between the ages of 5 and 16 at the Lilly Boys & Girls Club is the most recent in a series of community service projects by the firm's summer associates on an annual basis.
Last year, summer associates spent a day at Jameson Camp, where they assisted in maintenance and upkeep of the grounds, including painting, building picnic tables and re-roofing buildings. Two years ago, Baker & Daniels' summer associates combined with representatives of three other local law firms in a fundraising event culminating with a field day that raised almost $14,000 for local organizations.
