Faegre & Benson Wins Key Order in Trademark Case for Google

Class certification was denied December 18 in a trademark infringement suit against Faegre & Benson LLP client Google Inc.

The plaintiffs in the suit sought to certify a class of all trademark owners in the United States and demanded more than $1 billion in damages. The U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, however, agreed with Google's arguments opposing class certification and limited the case to a handful of individual claims.

Faegre & Benson lawyers collaborated with other Google counsel and other defendants' counsel to achieve this victory. Aaron Van Oort led a team that included John Beukema, Trey Roberts, Erin Oglesbay, Christina Rieck Loukas and Jennifer Dukart.
