Baker & Daniels Honored for Support to Justice Improvements

Baker & Daniels LLP has been recognized by the National Center for State Courtsas a 20-year contributor to the National Center, an organization dedicated to improving the administration of justice through leadership to the state courts.

Joseph B. Carney, a Baker & Daniels lawyer, accepted a resolution of appreciation from George S. Frazza, chair of the National Center's Board of Directors Development Committee, and South Carolina Supreme Court Chief Justice Jean Hoefer Toal, president of the National Center's Board of Directors, during a recognition luncheon in Washington, D.C. recently.

More than 40 leading American companies and law firms have achieved the special distinction from the center.

The NCSC, headquartered in Williamsburg, Va., is a nonprofit court reform organization dedicated to improving the administration of justice by providing leadership and service to the state courts. The National Center, founded in 1971 by the Conference of Chief Justices and Chief Justice of the United States Warren E. Burger, provides education, training, technology, management and research services to the nation's state courts.

The NCSC also is taking the lead on several key issues facing the justice system, including the establishment of a major civil justice initiative - a multiyear project that is examining best practices in civil case management and how complex litigation procedures can be improved. Other national initiatives driven by the NCSC include judicial selection reform and increasing citizen participation in jury service.
