Drinker Biddle Partners Serve as Featured Speakers at PBI Insurance Seminar

Philadelphia, PA (October 2003) — Drinker Biddle & Reath partners Daniel W. Krane and Brian T. Guthrie were featured speakers at the Pennsylvania Bar Institute Seminar entitled "Claims Adjusters and the Adjustment Process."  Mr. Krane also served as course planner to the seminar series that was attended by legal professionals from across the state.  The seminar was held on August 21, 22 and 28 in Mechanicsburg, Philadelphia, and Pittsburgh.

Mr. Krane addressed significant laws and regulations affecting insurer claims operations along with business and contract issues faced by insurers and third-party administrators.  He also addressed how the new Sarbanes-Oxley attorney conduct rules affect in-house lawyers for insurers.  Mr. Guthrie discussed a host of evolving litigation issues including recent steering, bad faith and civil RICO actions.

 Mr. Krane is a partner in the Corporate and Securities Group of Drinker Biddle & Reath LLP.  His practice focuses on corporate, transactional and regulatory issues affecting insurance companies, insurance agencies, TPAs, financial institutions, integrated health care systems, self-insurance, insurance captives and other types of risk-assuming vehicles.  He has extensive experience advising these clients in formations, mergers, acquisitions, public offerings, redomestications, holding company transactions, reinsurance, compliance and regulatory issues, and rehabilitation and insolvency proceedings.  Mr. Krane also drafts insurance, financial service and health care laws and frequently writes and lectures on these topics.  He received his J.D. from Dickinson School of Law in 1985, and is a member of the bar in New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

Mr. Guthrie is a partner in the firm's Insurance Practice Group in the Litigation Department.  His practice focuses on insurance and financial services business litigation and disputes, including class actions, trade practices, reinsurance and antitrust.  His practice also encompasses regulatory representation and compliance counseling, including antitrust and privacy.  His compliance engagements include substantial Gramm-Leach-Bliley and HIPAA privacy implementation advice.  Mr. Guthrie received his J.D. from Temple University School of Law in 1973 and is a member of the bar in Pennsylvania.  He has been a faculty member of CLE Courses on a variety of subjects, including insurance antitrust, health care antitrust, corporate governance, ethics and the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure.
