J. J. counsels on clearance and registration strategies that minimize legal expense while accomplishing clients’ objectives. He works with clients to consolidate and streamline their global portfolios, using the Madrid Protocol (among other tools), to maximize their brand protection investment.
Trademark and Copyright Monitoring and Enforcement
Across the global marketplace, J. J. develops targeted internet and offline monitoring programs where clients are most vulnerable to infringement. He then applies cost-effective enforcement tools — putting the onus on third parties where feasible — to secure the client’s brand or content.
Anti-Counterfeiting and Anti-Piracy
J. J. counsels on supply chain security matters; engages with global customs agencies; works with investigators and law enforcement supporting investigations and seeking restitution; facilitates large-scale internet takedowns and domain name seizures; and advocates for enhanced protection of consumers in the fight against fakes.
J. J. negotiates complex global coexistence agreements to protect clients' brands and minimize their expenditures on opposition, infringement and other dispute proceedings. He also prepares licenses and other transactional documents to help clients maximize the value of their intellectual property assets.
U.S. Peace Corps Volunteer
Prior to law school, J. J. served as a U.S. Peace Corps Volunteer in León, Nicaragua from 2000-02, providing business development training to small family enterprises.
