Overview

Amy Johnson is a valuable legal ally for health care industry clients, guiding them through transactional, regulatory, compliance, clinical research, risk management and health care real estate matters. She brings a beneficial background as a former in-house heath care attorney where she managed the legal aspects of issues involving physician relationships (employed and independent), joint ventures, medical staff matters, transactions and contracts, post-acute care, accreditation, a liability and casualty insurance program (commercial and self-insured) and general legal health care compliance. Today, Amy advises on:

Amy analyzes and advises on legal compliance issues related to federal and state laws, regulations and entities that govern health care operations, such as the Physician Self-Referral Law (Stark), federal health care fraud and abuse laws, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ Conditions of Participation and the Joint Commission standards. She provides guidance on strategic transactions and affiliations, mergers and acquisitions, health care compliance counsel and defense; drafts all types of health care contracts and policies; counsels clients on clinical and nonclinical research matters and compliance, and counsels on clinical and nonclinical risk management issues such as consent, medical records and patient rights.

She helps clients navigate the complexities of employed and independent physician relationships and contracts, which includes advice on strategy, compensation structures, fair market value and contractual disputes. Amy also advises on professional service arrangements, leases with referral sources and general service agreements.

Amy assists health care clients in buying and selling real estate and in real estate joint ventures. Additionally, she provides advice on timeshare leasing and health care lease compliance.

Previous In-House Experience

Prior to joining the firm, Amy served as associate general counsel and executive director of insurance at Mission Health System Inc. In that role, she managed physician employment legal strategy, relationships and contracts, independent physician contracts and relationships, medical staff matters and post-acute care legal matters, provided legal health care compliance advice, and managed a comprehensive liability and casualty insurance program. She also advised on issues that included complex compliance and transactional matters associated with Mission Health’s combination with HCA Healthcare, one of the nation’s largest for-profit providers.
