Signing on the Dotted Line Obselete

Princeton partner Dottie Bolinsky authored an article titled, “Signing on the Dotted Line – Obsolete?” for the August 2011 issue of Mercer Business.

Dottie, a partner in the firm’s Real Estate Practice Group, discussed the evolving law regarding electronic communications and transactions, including the Uniform Electronic Transactions Act, which allows parties to enter into contracts electronically, and recent New Jersey case law on the issue.

She concluded that the bottom line is that parties engaging in electronic communications “need to be mindful that such writings may not be informal discussions but rather binding business contracts, unless they state an intent not to be bound until a more formal agreement is prepared and executed.”
