Bob Stoll Participates in High-Level Patent Policy Discussion at Leahy Institute of Advanced Patent Studies

Overview

On February 16-18, 2020, Washington, D.C. partner and deputy practice group leader Bob Stoll participated in the Naples Roundtable Leahy Institute of Advanced Patent Studies. The invitation-only group discussed high-level patent policies with the goal of making recommendations to decision-makers. Bob moderated a panel on patent subject matter eligibility including; Kathi Vidal (Winston and Strawn), Bob Armitage (retired GC for Lilly), Warren Woessner (Schwegman), Richard Rainey (Covington), Steven Lieberman (Rothwell Figg), Phil Johnson (retired chief IP counsel, Johnson & Johnson) and Phil Warrick (Senator Coons's office). The group discussed the positions of lobbying groups (21C) on legislative language and how all of the different venues (district court, CAFC and SC as well as the Hill and the Administration) are handling issues. The conclusions were that little would change in the near term but that the CAFC needed to do more to distinguish the facts from those in the SC. Several Federal Circuit judges were in attendance.
