Breakfast N’ Learn—What Employers Need to Know about the NJ Pay Equity Act and NJ Paid Sick and Safe Leave Law

Overview

New Jersey recently enacted two new pieces of legislation that affect employees’ direct compensation and leave. The Diane B. Allen Equal Pay Act, which went into effect on July 1, aims to end discriminatory wage practices and makes employers in New Jersey vulnerable to a certain degree of liability if their compensation practices are considered unlawful. On October 29, 2018, New Jersey’s Paid Sick and Safe Leave Law will go into effect. This law will remove many compliance hurdles that employers in New Jersey have faced in the past due to municipal paid sick leave ordinances.

Drinker Biddle partnered with Innovative Benefit Planning LLC, to bring you a comprehensive seminar on the New Jersey Pay Equity Act and Paid Sick and Safe Leave Law. Partner Thomas J. Barton walked employers through what they need to know about these new laws, including potential compliance risks, employers’ burden of proof, and notice requirements.
