Ken Dort Quoted in Modern Healthcare

Chicago partner Ken Dort was quoted in a Modern Healthcare article titled “Azar Tells Hospital Execs That HHS Still Backs Value-Based Care.” The article explores Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar’s recent remarks in the wake of increased Medicare spending. Azar told a group of hospital executives that the Trump administration plans to move away from a fee-for-service system, and also hinted that his agency is doing more to ensure patients can access their medical records when they need to and can share them with their new providers.

Ken mentioned that some health technology insiders were confused by these remarks, since it is already legal for patients to access their information and share it with their new doctors. He also identified some potential areas of improvement, including the need for a central repository of patient information for doctors to access when treating patients who are unconscious or otherwise unable to provide the information themselves.
